Myth & Minimalism - Steinthórsdóttir Artist Text

Born in Keflavik (Iceland) in 1968, studied journalism and communication science with a focus on art history and audiovision in Salzburg. She lives and works in Linz since 2000.

Her works in spatula technique are abstract and minimalist. In the change of light and perspective, the relief-like structures begin to lead a life of their own, are subject to constant change. The multifaceted nature of Iceland is also a constant source of inspiration for Steinthórsdóttir and omnipresent in her paintings.

In doing so, she processes materials from nature such as the ash from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which paralyzed Europe for days in 2010. The ash as a symbol of transience, transformation and sustainability.
