I give duration to the moment.
The 67th BURN-IN exhibition is all about the newly created boutique gallery in the Gerngross and into the fascinating world of fractals. The focus is on works by the German photo artist ADKY (Ares Yannakopoulos), who, with his characteristic fractals, architecture and city- & landscapes, he has developed a highly independent, expressive visual language that attracts an captivates an ever-growing audience.
Fractals go back to the teachings of the mathematician Benoît Mandelbrot, who studied fractal geometry in nature. nature. Initially heavily criticized, today universally accepted, the IBM expert revealed many of nature's design secrets by recognizing and proving the endless repetitions (iterations | self-similarities) and was able to prove them. Mandelbrot saw things that no one else even began to suspect. suspected. He always played with shapes instead of formulas and was firmly convinced that mathematics and art are "related". This is exactly what you see in ADKY's work. He abstracts everywhere and shows his fractal works of art, which branch out all over the world.
The works shown in the exhibition refer to destinations such as Toronto, Niagara, the Gulf of Oman, Munich and Linz. Roaring masses of water mixed with modern architecture, impressively fragmented and interpreted in a new way. Colorful, but also color-reduced multiple reflections invite you on a voyage of discovery into another dimension.
The landscape pictures from Morocco (Aït-Ben-Haddou Movement) and Tyrol (Kaisers Sterne | Abendstimmung über dem Inntal) document the great the Inn Valley) document the great passion of the nature photographer and his affinity for the mountains. ADKY is a master at capturing the magic of nature and bringing the hidden before the curtain.
His fire pictures (Fire Mouth | Fire and Embers) and the imposing rusting hull of a ship in Greek waters waters provide a lot of drama and attention, as they testify to the danger and simultaneous beauty of the elements. beauty of the elements.
Thus, ADKY depicts his own personal reality, portraying his world as he sees it, the conscious and the unconscious. and the unconscious, and gives duration to the moment. Entirely in the spirit of Manuel Álvarez Bravo.
