Ladislav Černý, born in 1965 in Bratislava, received his artistic training through a multi-layered course of study that immersed him in both traditional and contemporary art. After studying at the renowned School of Applied Arts in Bratislava, where he focused on photography and commercial graphics, Černý deepened his knowledge at the Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown. His academic journey continued at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, where he graduated in 1991 with a diploma in restoration under the aegis of Prof. Dr. Ingo Sandner.
However, the foundation of his artistic identity was not only laid through formal education. Černý's true passion was kindled in the studios of Prof. Hort Jokusch, Prof. Friderun Bonzin and Prof. Günter Jakob, where he honed his skills in painting and sculpture. This multidisciplinary training enabled Černý to find an impressive balance between mastery of craftsmanship and conceptual depth.
Since 1999, Černý has been an integral part of the international art scene with numerous solo and group exhibitions presenting his works to a wide audience in Slovakia, Austria, France, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. His membership of three artists' associations - the Association of Slovak Artists, the Slovak Art Association and the Society of Free Artists - underlines his active role in the art world and the recognition he receives from his peers.
In addition to his personal artistic endeavors, Černý is also a sought-after restorer whose skills are called upon by renowned institutions and artists, such as Hermann Nitsch. His artistic expression is characterized by monumentality and an expressive directness, paired with a fine sensitivity and vulnerability. This duality gives his works a haunting presence and a lasting effect.
Ladislav Černý lives and works in Ivanka pri Dunaji near Bratislava. There he creates and restores art that moves the viewer and invites them to pause, to see and to experience - art that is both a reflection of the past and a bold statement about the present.
